About

Prelude tells the story of an explorer named Solan. After making a mysterious discovery, Solan experiences a series of events revealing a tangled mystery. With his friends, he embarks on a journey involving wild beasts, a secret organization, ancient codes, and a key.

Set within the World of Rynaga, the book features postcard-like images with part of the story on each opposing page. Each image is illustrated using a limited collection of eight core shapes. The result is a geometric feast for the eyes and tale that will challenge even the hardest of hearts to see color left in our world.

Inspiration

My favorite stories are adventures. The kind of fiction that sweeps one from their doorstep and into the unknowable. Lord of Rings, The Hobbit, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, The Dark Crystal, and Dune to name a few. My time at the library as a boy opened the door to so many worlds. If only I could explore them all.

Reflection

Prelude is the first story set within Rynaga – a world of fiction I started building in high school. (Gen-X nerd here!) But it’s also the first product I created to share with others. In a way, it’s the start of all I hoped my career would become.

Reflecting on Prelude years after its release, I see its quirks and its faults too. I made it with sincereness and eagerness, but I was also sooo young. With so much yet to learn. You see, at one point or another all of us creative-types encounter the ultimate challenge – throwing aside fear and getting something done. No matter the reception. As imperfect as it may be, it must be “done”. The irony is that as artists our work is never actually done!

I hope you enjoy Prelude. It holds a special place in my mind and heart.
